Accelerated
Reader Comes to RSA |
|
| Last
year the PTC purchased the Accelerated Reader program and hundreds of new
books for RSA. Accelerated Reader is an exciting reading software package
that tests students on their comprehension of books they have read. The
AR program offers quizzes for 10s of thousands of books, ranging from easy
reading Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, and Sid Hoff books, to more challenging books
by John Grisham, John Steinbeck, and J.R. Tolkien. Upon successfully completing
a quiz, students earn points toward a reading goal.
For RSA’s starter set we purchased quizzes for 1,000 books. The library had about a third of those books already and we have purchased approximately 200 more. This means there are approximately 450 books for which we have quizzes, but we still do not have the actual books at RSA. While students can read the AR books from any source (such as purchasing it themselves, or borrowing it from a friend or library), it would be nice to have as many of the AR books as possible within the RSA library collection. So we’re asking for your donations. Clicking on this link link to book donation list will take you to a list of specific book titles we need in the AR collection. If you come across any of these books when you’re cleaning out your bookshelves and would like to pass them along, please consider donating them to the RSA library. Or if you are in the bookstore and are just dying to buy a few extra books, please consider the books on this list for the RSA library. And don’t worry about donating something that someone else might have already donated. It never hurts to have duplicate copies of popular books. If
you would like to view the full list of quizzes RSA now has, click on
this link Link to quiz list. If you have any
questions about the AR program, please contact Mary Hall (number available
inoffice) or mamahall62@sbcglobal.net |
