Elective Program
Fall 2005 Grades 1 through 4

The elective program is an enrichment opportunity for children who are successful in the regular academic program, including home study/independent study students. Its purpose is to allow students to experience and explore different aspects of Visual & Performing Arts (VAPA) and/or focus on a particular interest. The first through fourth grade students are required to take an art elective class the first semester of the school year. To enrich the thematic units, art will be included during the academic day by the homeroom teacher for first through fourth grade students.

Course descriptions are included to help with your child’s selection. Please keep in mind that many elective programs require a monetary commitment by parents, or specific dance clothing and shoes. Classes are offered on the basis of the enrollment of 15 or more students. Some electives will require teacher approval before enrolling.

All elective choices will be processed by the day they are received from the grades oldest to youngest. Choices received on or before June 2 will be processed first, then each day following.

To maximize learning within the elective program, the following expectations must be met.

1. Students must maintain a passing grade in all classes.
2. Students must maintain school wide citizenship standards.
3. Students removed from an elective class due to inappropriate behavior will be reassigned to study hall.
4. Students participating in a class with a fee must pay the appropriate fee before the end of that semester. Students with an unpaid fee for the current semester will not be enrolled in a fee class for the upcoming semester. Alternate arrangements may be made at the discretion of the administration.
5. Students will not be allowed changes in the elective schedule after the first week of class other than removal due to inappropriate behavior or low grades.

The first through fourth grade students are required to take an art elective class the first semester of the school year.
Students will be placed in their first choice elective (if possible) and then have art the remainder of the week.
